Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 September 2026

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the Placehit mobile app and the placehit.app website, why we collect it, and what rights you have.

Who we are

Placehit is operated by Sounds Like Fun AB (company registration number 559584-0629), Stockholm, Sweden. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

Contact: privacy@placehit.app

What we collect

1. Account information

You can play Placehit without an account. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive from that provider your name (or the name you have chosen to share), your email address and a unique account identifier. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only receive the relay address Apple generates. We never receive or store your Google or Apple password.

2. Game data

When you play, we store the rounds you play, the guesses you make, the distances and scores that result, and any display name or team name you enter. If you appear on a leaderboard, your display name and score are visible to other players.

3. Purchases

If you buy the physical Placehit board game in the app, the order is processed by Shopify Inc., our e-commerce provider. You enter your name, delivery address, email address and payment details directly into Shopify's checkout. We receive the order and delivery details we need to fulfil and support your purchase; we never see or store your full card number.

4. Technical and usage data

Like most apps, Placehit records basic technical information such as device model, operating system version, app version, language, approximate region derived from your IP address, and diagnostic data such as crash reports. We also use Google Analytics for Firebase, which processes device identifiers, including the advertising ID, to measure how the app is used. This helps us keep the app working, fix faults and improve the game.

5. What we do not collect

Placehit does not use your device's GPS location. When you drop a pin on the map, that pin is a guess you make in the game — it is not your physical position. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not show advertising in the app.

Music and Spotify

Placehit does not play music itself. Songs open in the Spotify app on your device, under your own Spotify account. Your listening activity is handled by Spotify under Spotify's own privacy policy, and is not shared with us.

Why we use your data, and on what legal basis

  • To provide the game — running rounds, saving progress, showing leaderboards. Legal basis: performance of a contract with you (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
  • To process and deliver orders for the physical game, and to handle returns and support. Legal basis: performance of a contract, and compliance with accounting obligations (Articles 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(c)).
  • To keep the app secure, stable and free of abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating Placehit (Article 6(1)(f)).
  • To measure and improve how the app is used, through analytics. Legal basis: your consent where consent is required (Article 6(1)(a)); you can withdraw it at any time.
  • To send you messages you have asked for, such as product news. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)).

Who we share data with

We share personal data only with providers who process it on our behalf, and only as far as they need it:

  • Google and Apple — sign-in, app distribution, analytics and push notifications.
  • Shopify — store, checkout and order processing for the physical game.
  • Our hosting and infrastructure providers — storing game data and running the service.
  • Crash reporting and analytics providers — diagnosing faults and measuring aggregate usage.

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to establish or defend legal claims. We do not sell personal data to anyone.

Transfers outside the EU/EEA

Some of our providers are based outside the EU/EEA, including in the United States. Where data is transferred there, we rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision, and on the additional safeguards our providers commit to.

How long we keep data

We keep your account and game data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise the associated data within 90 days, except where we must keep it longer — for example, order and invoice records, which Swedish accounting law requires us to retain for seven years.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to our processing of it, and to receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, or to delete your account, write to privacy@placehit.app and we will respond within one month.

If you believe we are handling your data incorrectly, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY), Box 8114, 104 20 Stockholm, imy.se, or to the supervisory authority in your own country.

Children

Placehit is not directed at children. The app is intended for players aged 16 and over, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
